Konsert Jess Santiago and Paul Galang

Poster title - Konsert Jess Santiago and Paul Galang

The title reads Filipino Music for Law and Freedom in Dutch. A series of Filipino music concerts took place in September and October 1984 in the Netherlands in five cities (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Hengelo, Roermond, and Herlen). It featured Jess Santiago and Paul Galang, two Filipino musicians. Santiago’s work focused on the social and political realities of Filipino lower classes during the Marcos period. He co-organized the Musicians for Peace, an association of songwriters and musicians involved with the people’s movement. Galang is a nationalist Filipino folksinger-songwriter who is known for his songs on human rights. The Netherlands is an important site for Filipino activists. Many activists, including Jose Maria Sison, sought political asylum in the Netherlands.
