Noise Barrage

Poster title - Noise Barrage

September 21 is the anniversary of the declaration of martial law. Noise barrages gained popularity during the martial law period as a form of nonviolent protest. Noise barrages create a cacophony of sound by honking and banging pots and pans. Noise was meant to make known the people’s opposition to corrupt leadership. Noise barrages have resurfaced as a popular form of public demonstration in the face of the Rodrigo Duterte and Bongbong Marcos presidencies. Philippine president from 2016 to 2022, Duterte led a bloody drug war against the urban poor that has led to thousands of killings. Elected to the presidency in 2022, Marcos led a campaign that attempted to rewrite the history of his father’s violent regime.
