No to Ballots! No to Bullets! Boycott the May 1984 Batasan Elections

Poster title - No to Ballots No to Bullets Boycott the May 1984 Batasan Elections

Kaakbay UP was a political organization dedicated to student self-empowerment that called for a boycott of the 1984 presidential elections. Student activists were critical to the formation of anti-martial law resistance. The poster highlights presidential decrees 1735, 1834, 1835, and 1836, 1877, all of which sought to punish rebellion, subversion, and subversive organizations with detention and “the penalty of reclusion perpetua to death.” The poster points to elections under the Marcos regime as a cover for the violence of dictatorship. Marcos held elections to offer the façade of a free democracy while continuing a regime of fraud and corruption.
