Asian American Poetry Reading
The use of arts and culture was a critical component of the anti-martial law movement in the United States. The movement also coincided with the rise of Asian American movements, especially in the Bay Area. This poster features prominent Asian American writers Carlos Bulosan and Manong Legaspi, both important artistic and activist voices that highlighted the experiences and lives of Filipino Americans in the United States. It is possible that this reading was part of the Kearny Street Workshop, founded in 1972, which gathered Asian American artists and community organizers. Among the writers featured in this event were: Norman Jayo; Lou Syquia; Nelson Yee; Janice Mirikitani; Ed Badajos; Cher Min; Nancy Hom; Prescal Tabios; Al Robles; and Laureen Mar.
