Alay Kapwa ’86: “Courage! I have overcome…” – John 16:33

Poster title - Alay Kapwa 86 Courage I have overcome John 16 33

Alay Kapwa originated in 1975 and refers to the National Lenten Action Program. Alay Kapwa translates to “offering to our neighbor.” The program emphasizes sacrifice and renewal and builds upon a long history of resistance rooted in the suffering of Jesus Christ. It was organized around the suffering of the Philippine poor, especially the one million squatters living in Manila. It was a call to understand the roots of misery, including socioeconomic, political, and religious structures that caused and maintained injustice.
