DESCRIPTION
Press release regarding the hearings of the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians. The Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians was commissioned by Congress to investigate and evaluate the impacts of Japanese Americans and people of Japanese ancestry after the signing of Executive Order 9066. Following over 750 testimonies, the Commission concluded with the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. The Civil Liberties Act of 1988 provided a formal apology from President George Bush and a redress check of $20,000 to any surviving Japanese American and legal resident of Japanese ancestry who were incarcerated in the time of World War II.
